In
1981, Tevis Oil diversified
and took the leap into the convenience store industry. The first
store, originally called Tevco, was primarily a self-service truck
stop featuring less expensive, unbranded gasoline, along with
hot food, drinks, and several convenience items. Its location
on Baltimore Boulevard in Finksburg was the perfect spot for the
business to flourish. After the success of the first store, Tevis
Oil continued to open new stores over the years with each one
offering a little more than the last. Currently there are five
stores in the chain, and another is scheduled to open next year.
All of the stores are now called Jiffy Mart, with three of them
featuring Shell gasoline and two featuring Tevco gasoline. Four
of the five have Subway Restaurants and one has a self-service
car wash. Jiffy Mart is exclusive to Carroll County and plans
to remain so. The friendly, family-oriented feeling customers
experience in every Jiffy Mart is what sets the stores apart from
the large, corporate convenience store chains. Jiffy Mart has
come to be known as Carroll County's "Hometown Convenience
Store."
Although
all five Jiffy Marts already offer their signature fresh roasted
coffee and several deli items, the selection of choices will be
expanded with the opening of Joe's Café in May of 2005.
Most of the Café's signature items will be available in
all Jiffy Marts, but the original Finksburg Jiffy Mart will be
the only location to offer Joe's complete line of hot and cold
deli creations.
Along
with the new Café selections, Jiffy Mart has modernized
its image by installing custom refrigerated open-air cases in
all of its stores. This facilitates our customers' need for convenient
grab-and-go food that is made fresh and delicious, as well as
grabbing those less than healthy pre-packaged snacks that everyone
occasionally craves. Quality, convenience and a friendly atmosphere
is Jiffy Mart's goal. Each store's highly trained staff will ensure
that every customer leaves their local Jiffy Mart with a smile
on their face. |
